What Is Your Sand Dollar?

On a recent road trip to the Oregon coast with my friend, Freda, we were walking along the beach one morning and noticed partial sand dollars scattered along the shore. We set the intention to find a whole sand dollar along our walk and pretty quickly found a few that had been poked through the center. So then we set our sights on finding a fully intact sand dollar. After walking about a mile without finding what we were looking for, we decided to turn around feeling a bit disappointed. Something told me, though, that we might just find our sand dollar on the walk back to our hotel and, lo and behold, we did! Here I am with said sand dollar.

The next day, in a different town, walking along a different beach, we found two more fully intact sand dollars without even looking for them! They were actually the only sand dollars we saw along that walk. Freda and I each took one sand dollar to bring home with us, saving the third sand dollar for a friend who might appreciate it. In a fortuitous turn of events, that friend ended up being Freda since she had accidentally left her sand dollar in the rental car when we returned it.
Reflecting on that experience reinforced how important our beliefs are and how they influence the opportunities we are able to see. Freda and I could have very easily given into our doubts and stopped looking for the sand dollar, which would have caused us to walk right by it. That we saw two more sand dollars the next day without actively searching for them is a great reminder of how you get more of what you focus on. This can be applied to any area of life - whether it’s looking for a job, a new place to live, or something specific that you’re looking to acquire.
So I pose this question to you…what is your sand dollar?
